North Korea, a vacation pair-of-dice

In our continuing series on the world’s weirdest country, here’s an update.

North Korea launched a travel website because anything else it launches generally goes down in flames.

The country currently has a ban on international tourists due to fears of both the Ebola virus and any of its citizens finding out that other people eat regularly.

Dprktoday.com is a Korean-language site. That’s right, they’re inviting visitors but you’ll have to speak Korean to understand what the site says.

Different areas of the site highlight a variety of North Korea’s attractions, from the annual chicken chase to its Capital Pyongyang’s only restaurant to earn a half star for its mock steak, a treat for those who have never eaten meat.

Some of the travel site images including pictures of rockets and a single dog which was purported to be Glorious Leader Kim Jong-Un’s personal dog until it peed on its own electrified fence and fried itself.

Since the ‘Fantabulous Leader to End All Leaders’ came to power in 2011, several prestige projects have sprung up in North Korea: a waterpark with no water, a dolphinarium with no dolphins, an equestrian club with no horses and a shooting range with paper ducks.

The ‘deluxe’ tourist package includes a guide that will smile when you speak English to him, one of the twelve working cabs in the country and a toilet that is not a hole in the floor.

In addition…..

Kim Jong-Un has banned North Koreans from sharing his name.

The directive is enforced by North Korean military and police officials who, under the guise of being friendly, ask citizen’s their names for the purpose of changing it on the spot if it’s the same as you know who. Citizens with the same name do have the option to visit the new State tourist attraction, the ‘Kim Jong-Un Naming Cathedral’ and get a once in a lifetime opportunity to throw a dart at a board with acceptable names. Miss the board and get sent to one of the many tourist prisons for an extended stay.
