‘On the Record and Off the Wall’ a deep background interview show on http://www.joltradio.org with Buzz Fleischman welcomes Von Henry to the show on Monday Sept 3rd 10AM. Von is a South Florida native who is best known for her prowess as a jazz singer although she sings Pop, Rock, Soul, and Blues as well.
Von portrayed Bessie Smith in the Barry Edelson Original production of “Bessie’s Back in Town”. Ms. Henry has been influenced by the likes of Dakota Stanton, Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, and Kathleen Battle and has garnered a very loyal audience here in South Florida. Her talents have been compared to the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Empress of the blues Bessie Smith.
She’ll be accompanied in the studio by guitarist Michael Curtis.
