Twinkies® return to stores with new, more unpronounecable ingredients

Twinkie® assembly lines are rolling once again and all is right with the world. As comebacks go, only Anthony Weiner, if he wins election for NYC Mayor, will have a bigger one.

That iconic mini speed bump to nutrition, the Hostess Twinkie®, will make a triumphal return to neighborhood markets on July 15th with a new longer shelf life.

The urban legend that a Hostess Twinkie® enjoys a shelf life equal to the fruitcakes, found in the pyramids, is false according to Snopes.com. http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/twinkies.asp

No, they won’t last forever, but at least they’ll be a consideration when stocking up for hurricane season.

Hostess Brands LLC says the spongy yellow cakes will now last 45 days or about as many days as it has ingredients.

A spokeswoman for Hostess, Hannah Arnold, declined to say what changes were made to extend the shelf life, saying that it is proprietary information, but that the ingredients were “Very hard to pronounce.”

One of them is the old ‘stand-by’ Polysorbate 60 which is used in imitation cream, baked goods and frozen desserts. It helps whiteners dissolve in coffee and is used in some vaginal itch treatments, such as Monistat.

Eating a couple of Twinkies® however, will help rid your mind of that last fact.

The vigils that have been held for the Twinkie’s demise last year have been called off, and the 18 legal medical marijuana States have declared a holiday via social media.
‘The ‘Munchies’ are to the Twinkie® what blood is to a vampire” said James ‘Doobie’ Harris, President of the now defunct ‘Save the Twinkie, man ’ coalition. “We’re getting them back. Now they last even longer, which is a great benefit for those who buy them and forget where they are.”

For those who do forget, Hostess will send you an official email notification when they are back in stores. Go to: http://hostesscakes.com/
