Trans-Dermal patch for ‘chocoholics?’

here’s some advice from too many TV commercials. ‘Ask your doctor.‘  What could they say?

“Take two pills and call me in the morning.” That was sage advice when all we had were pills, but we’ve gone trans-dermal! When the nicotine patch became available, smokers saw how easy it was to simply take nicotine through the skin. Too bad it didn’t work as well for tobacco chewers. Second hand smoke was easier to take than second hand spit.

(Real science note) The skin is the body’s first defense and will only allow medications whose molecules are small enough to penetrate. (Fake science note) The skin, after becoming addicted to the nicotine patch will leave the body late at night for a trip to the 7-11 for smokes. (This could be the reason for those strange dreams of running down the street naked)

Let’s ‘ask our doctor’ to research a trans-dermal patch that releases dark chocolate through the skin all day long.

Thank Goodness theobromine fits that bill. Theobromine is the primary alkaloid found in cocoa and chocolate and imparts a ‘deliciousness’ to the palate and with any luck at all will be able to be transmitted through the skin with a trans-dermal patch.

Let’s develop it now!

Dieticians at St George’s Hospital in London said they have tested a skin patch that releases whiffs of vanilla and other scents that help to reduce cravings for chocolates among other high-calorie sweets.

Go ahead; 'Ask your doctor' for chocolate!

Raise your hand if you don’t want to get your craving in line!

We discovered information about dark chocolate which may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The study showed it inhibits the clumping of platelets, which is a major cause of blood clots which lead to stroke and heart attacks. Good news! There was no adult supervision so it gave us a healthy reason to surrender to our chocolate craving as we finished most of the 1st layer of nutty and chewy treats.

Where are the helpless chocoholics who need their Hershey Bars every day? What of the hapless worker unable to leave their desk for a quick Kit Kat bar?

As long as we’re going trans-dermal let’s explore other cravings. Line up the scientists and hand out the assignments. The ‘15 minutes of fame’ patch. It releases images to the brain of you on the red carpet giving an interview about your new movie.

The ‘Indy 500’ patch will give you the illusion of competitive driving on a race track while cruising on I-95. (Not such a stretch)

The ‘Bachelorette’ patch makes you think you’re on an island where rich tanned and muscled young men vie for your attention.

The ‘Royal’ patch gives you the feeling you’re the Queen of England. A special treat for ‘Royal-philes’

And finally, the ‘Facebook’ patch which makes you think you’re updating your profile while doing your schoolwork.
