Republicans and Democrats are thatfar apart from an agreement that will set the country back on course for the next ‘dust up’ in Congress.
“We need to ‘put this one to bed’ so we can be ready to fight about the next issue” said Ted Cruz, “And there are plenty out there. For example, children are being born without a stitch of clothes on and that’s a tragedy.
“The counter plan to our counter plan runs counter to the expectations we had for it”, an unnamed lobbyist for ‘Citizens for the Right to Fight about any and all Issues’ said in a press release. “If people aren’t distracted from the way we’ve been running things around here, they may wake up and see what’s actually happening.”
“The American people don’t have to worry because we’re on it” said Senator Charlie Dent R-PA. When asked by a reporter what ‘on it’ meant, he replied, “Just report what I said.”
The tea party wing of the Republican Party will not agree to any plan if it includes raising the debt ceiling. “We probably will not vote for any plan that raises the debt ceiling for more than a month. Then it’ll be back to business as usual. It’s called a ‘cliffhanger’ in the movies. Makes you want to come back next week to see how they get out of it.”
“We’ve already got a plan to tape Ted Cruz’ mouth shut” mentioned Eric Cantor R-VA. “Just kidding” he said, “we’re only going to tie him up to John Boehner and cart them off to the Senate cloak room so we can really screw things up around here.”
He then said, “A major sticking point was overcome when we agreed to not keep insisting Obama was born in Kenya but a country much closer to the U.S. like Indonesia.”
“Political brinkmanship” will be the cause of a possible downgrading of U.S. bonds if default occurs says Wall Street bond-rating firm Fitch. “Don’t worry” said Mitch McConnell R-KY, “a default would increase interest rates in many sectors of the economy including mortgages, credit cards and auto loans. If you don’t have any of those things; no problem.”
