Do you think they bought it?

This latest news is from the ‘We had to do something’ dept.

In a ‘Kum Ba Ya’ moment, our government, after committing an international gaffe by not sending a high ranking official to France for their huge rally against terrorism, produced a high ranking folksinger (Who was touring France anyway) to show solidarity with the French people by singing a song. It should have been ‘Let it Go’ by Idina Menzel. Instead it was ‘You’ve got a Friend’ by John Kerry pal James Taylor.

Kerry said “My visit to France is basically to share a big hug for Paris.” The French thought of it as a sloppy hug from a distant aunt that a kid twists away from in displeasure. “They love it as much as they love Heinz Ketchup” said a satisfied Kerry.

To Kerry, the Presidential blunder was no big deal, but to many Americans the choice of singers was. We should have tried for Bono said Herve’ Lipshitz, spokes-teenager of an ad hoc group he calls ‘Who the hell is James Taylor?’ He added, “We don’t hear about this stuff in civics class.”

“How many times do we have to thank you for helping us in the revolutionary war” said a petulant Kerry, “The goodwill for your bail out during WWII should last until the 22nd Century at least!”

Francois Hollande, President of France stopped short of banning all Jerry Lewis movies but he will propose to the Council of Ministers that Disneyland Paris allow the characters to smoke while on duty.
