Distracted drivers distracted from mundane chore of driving

Do we need diversion?

Why on Earth should we concentrate on driving safely when there are so many diversions on the road? The newer LED signs are brighter by far and distract us more than even those texts and tweets that certainly deserve our attention. We’re so important, that we think a text from a friend who wants us to know exactly what they’re doing at that moment is more important than……”HEY WATCH OUT A**HOLE…Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah, things that divert our attention while driving the car.

Allstate Insurance reported in 2012 that Hialeah was number 4 in the nation for having the worst drivers. Unfortunately for the rest of us those drivers leave Hialeah and infest many local roads. We’re known for rudeness, road rage and lack of insurance.

South Florida has established itself as a mecca for bad drivers. Why shouldn’t our municipalities help the mess and not enforce the rules they enact? Can you say ‘pressure from lobbyists and big business’?

“They paved paradise and put up a parking lot” Joni Mitchell wrote. In her iconic 60’s hit she said, “They took all the trees, and put ’em in a tree museum’. In this case $200,000 worth of trees were uprooted, because they blocked a museum’s advertising sign.

The trees were planted along the entranceway to the PortMiami Tunnel, lining the bland roadway with welcoming tropical greenery, among them Royal Palms, Gumbo Limbos, even a Royal Poinciana.

The owner of the electronic sign, Worldwide Amherst Media, protested that the trees blocked drivers’ view of the billboard, located on the eastern facade of the Miami Children’s Museum on Watson Island.

Barry Rush, one of the company’s principals said the trees made the LED billboard “unreadable from the road’. We don’t need drivers to pay attention to their driving 100% of the time, just maybe 30 or 40%. That’s enough to make it interesting.

According to the Miami herald, ‘Sixty-two trees had been sentenced to relocation to protect the sight lines of an LED billboard that, under Miami-Dade County law, is technically illegal.

Technically speaking when is it OK to drive without giant led signage distracting us?
