There was nothing new in the second Republican ‘debate’ unless you count the admission by Jeb that he ‘inhaled.’ Jeb Bush also stood by his defense of his brother and said, “You know what? As it relates to my brother, there’s one thing I know for sure. He kept us safe.” Jeb failed to mention 9-11.
When asked about a famous misogynistic remark from Donald Trump, Carli Fiorina struck back and said, “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.” Speaking to the partisan crowd she then mangled the facts about a highly edited and misinterpreted video made by opponents of Planned Parenthood, making people around the country squirm with her graphic interpretation.
There was sniping and denouncements; bluster and wall building, religious extremism and self-serving BS.
Huckabee, Jindal, Cruz and Santorum threw their support behind Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who placed her personal opinion of marriage above the law of the land and her own oath to serve.
Every candidate was against the Iranian nuclear agreement and said or implied that armed force was the only answer.
Every candidate, either during the debate or at another time, said they would eliminate ‘Obamacare’ on their first day.
Every candidate would defund Planned Parenthood and take away a woman’s right to choose what she will do with her own body. Cruz, Trump and Rand Paul have said they’d be willing to shut down the government instead of continuing to fund Planned Parenthood and Paul argued it would be Democrats’ fault if a shutdown does occur. BTW, the idea that “taxpayer funded abortions” are taking place at Planned Parenthood is a lie. The Hyde Amendment, which was passed in 1976, prevents federal money from funding abortion which is 3% of Planned Parenthood’s services. 9 out of 10 abortions take place in the first 12 weeks which means they are embryos and not fetuses.
There was never a mention of the enormous problems that face our country like the amount of hungry children, the rapid elimination of the middle class, the diminishing of quality public education, the crumbling infrastructure, huge amounts of untraceable money from super-PACs, the out-sourcing of jobs and the ducking of taxes by corporations headquartered in name only in other countries but instead the constant harping on the virtually non-existent Mexican immigration ‘problem’ and the non-issue of Clinton’s email server.
The 11 were pandering to their base, but it doesn’t take away their fervent ‘completely out of the mainstream’ beliefs.
