It wouldn’t be the first time someone lied about size.
Don’t mess with our fast food.
We find out that a SUBWAY FOOTLONG®’ is only 11 inches. That’s Baloney®! SUBWAY® is world-wide, but in other countries they don’t call it a ‘LITTLE BIT LARGER THAN 30 CENTIMETERS-LONG. That would be an awkward marketing strategy. At that point it’s not ‘fast food’ because it takes too long to order.
We’re Americans. We’ve never accepted the metric system so we really don’t care whether a foot long is long is 30.480 centimeters in other countries. We thought a ‘centimeter’ is the size of a penny. We are not alone. Two other Major countries like Liberia and Myanmar have no use for the metric system either. We don’t know where they are but if they have cars they probably drive on the same side of the road as we do. That’s good enough for us.
The question is, what are we doing about being ‘shorted’. Will we go on SUBWAY’s Facebook page and take away our ‘Like’? Will we whine and complain to our social media about losing an inch? What about SUBWAY’s 6” Cold Cut Combo? Is it really 6 inches? Is it cold? Will they cut it? What constitutes a ‘combo?’ Isn’t that a musical group?
How do we confront this dilemma? Someone should do something!
And they have. Stephen DeNittis, a lawyer from New Jersey with a tape measure but no clients had ‘foot-longs’ from 17 Subways measured and they all came up short. Will he sue for that extra inch? At the press conference he said “If every SUBWAY® around the world sold 100 ‘Foot-Longs® every day the extra inch could feed both Jared and Governor Chris Christie for 2 years and that’s not trivial”.
Here we go. We need lawyers to fight the food fight for us. We have accepted the fact that coffee makers have produced smaller bags and have not mentioned the fact that their ‘pound’ of coffee is between 11 and a half and 13 ounces. What happened when ‘Famous Amos’ disappeared from the cookie package? We didn’t flinch when ‘One thousand Flushes’ didn’t really last that long, but don’t mess with our portion sizes!
SUBWAY® issued an apology of sorts when it said, “We bake our bread in more than 38,000 restaurants and we can’t be responsible if some jerk doesn’t know how to count to 12. In certain countries this is more difficult because they have to count all the way up to 30 centimeters. We actually know what a centimeter is.
Our commitment remains steadfast to ensure that every SUBWAY FOOTLONG® is 12 inches and if it’s not please accept our offer of a coupon for the new ONE INCHER® a sandwich ‘For Those Who Want less®. It’s the perfect size. Pop one while driving, gobble it at the desk for a quick snack or see how many you can fit in your purse.
America will never stop snacking. We have all sorts of TV shows relating to food.
In the popular Travel Channel show, ‘Man V Food’, host Adam Richman does what everyone wishes they could do; travel around the country attempting to shove more food in their mouth than anyone else and still live. Of course when the cameras stop rolling you may find him in the alley…..with Jared.
