Question: What was, according to one person “really one of the greatest achievements in human history?”
A, Invention of the printing press
B, Invention of the internet
C, George Clooney’s marriage
Barbara Walters introducing Amal Clooney as the selection for her ‘most fascinating person’ of the year said “I guess the question is: ‘What does it take to fascinate one of the most fascinating men in the world?’
It points up the shallow nature of Americans who are titillated by fame. On a scale of one to six, how important to our lives is the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack, the cute combination names like Bey/Jay, Kim/Ye and The diminished allure of ‘The View’? The answer might be close to one!
‘Twerk’ was not the ‘word of the year’ for 2014 although it could rank up there with almost anything that came out of Michelle Bachmann’s mouth for sheer idiocy. At the White House Christmas party “I turned to the president and I said, something to the effect of, ‘Mr. President, you need to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities, because if you don’t, Iran will have a nuclear weapon on your watch and the course of world history will change.” Her family had just taken a picture with the President and left immediately after.
Has the basic nature of Americans changed so much lately that we’d rather be distracted and consumed by social and mass media than face the reality we have created?
When those without an educated sense actually vote for politicians who then pass laws hurting those very voters by abridging the freedoms we fought for, curtailing the medical help we need, passing draconian voting rights laws and allowing corporations to spend as much as they can to elect those that will bend to their will, then we, not Italy deserve the title of ‘Most Ignorant Country’
It’s a poll on which you don’t want to appear.
Italy has been named as “most ignorant” country in a poll which gauged how much citizens know about their country’s social affairs, with the United States coming in second. Second means second worst country, not second best in anything.
Market research organization, Ipsos MORI asked 14 developed countries from across the globe to take part in a study which documented how much citizens knew about their own population’s framework and social issues.
After Italy and probably with a huge boost from outgoing Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, the U.S. only came in second. Damn!
