A teacher at East Elementary School, Ankeny, Iowa was arrested by police after she allegedly drank alcohol at school. Officers located a leather carry bag in her classroom with two empty cans of beer and four additional full cans of beer.
When police entered the classroom, Rich exclaimed, “Wow, I didn’t know this was ‘bring a cop to school day’” When told the reason for their appearance, she said, “Hey, you try to share space with a bunch of wet pants rug rats who scream ‘Me Me’ all day long. It’s too bad you came in now. If it was lunchtime the beer would have been gone.”
The teacher, Jennifer Rich, had bloodshot and watery eyes as she spoke to police, “Really” she said; “My eyes were bloodshot after only 2 beers? The kids usually tell me when my eyes turn red. Then we have a discussion on the colors of the traffic lights.
I was preparing for a group discussion of ounces to liters and whether you would get more to drink in a metric bottle than US liquid measure.
Ankeny police officers were called to East Elementary School at 2 p.m. on a report that a kindergarten teacher was observed with a can of beer in her classroom. ‘The event was reported to police by a concerned parent who was in the school to assist with the annual preparations for the big ‘Pre Cinco de Mayo’ celebration sponsored by Busch Lite.
Authorities said that Rich took a preliminary breath test, and her result came back positive, leading to her arrest.
Chief Human Resource Officer Jenifer Owenson told the television station ‘We are not aware that any students were put in any kind of unsafe situation or that they had questions at all except for the classroom discussion on the merits of craft beer as opposed to ‘that factory crap our parents drink’.”
