Parade floats are the ‘meat and potatoes’ of a parade but the New York Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade just said no to vegetarian rocker Joan Jett and ‘jettisoned’ her from the South Dakota float due to her meatless lifestyle.
If she were diabetic would they kick her off the Lindt Chocolate float?
“If we had confirmation of her eating the occasional steak, or caught her at a Burger King we never would have told her to go” said Jodie Anderson of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association. “But Nooooo, she’s a carrot muncher!”
“We’re tolerant, but we feel that if she waves from our float people might associate her with a narrow minded group of farmers in a State with less people than the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. We don’t think she wants that.
A vegan shouldn’t be representing a state that is “Heavily reliant on agriculture, livestock production and non-issues. When people think South Dakota, the first thing that comes to mind is “Where the hell is that?”
If we’re talking lifestyles here, why didn’t they pick on Richard Simmons, a celebrity performer in the parade?
Jett is an outspoken PETA activist and has even recorded vegetarian testimonial PSAs for the group.
She said, “I’ve decided to switch from South Dakota to another float like maybe ‘Sea World.’ Their animals aren’t slaughtered and sold off.”
Activists plan to protest a Sea-World float over accusations in a new documentary that the theme parks treat whales badly. “At least they don’t wind up in a Long John Silvers as the special” said Jett
