Dr. Jerry Cammarata is the first father to be granted paternity leave in the U.S. He’s also a noted child’s rights advocate and Guinness Book of Records holder for the longest singing marathon. In addition, he’s a featured contributor to medical and political journals as well as a national columnist.
“Paternity leave — and maternity leave, for that matter — is still mostly unpaid and there is no outcry. We have almost no people really hitting the streets on social issues related to the family.” Said Dr. Jerry Cammarata in 1971. He took note of the growing feminist movement that demanded equal rights and financial parity for women in the workplace.
Dr. Jerry Cammarata, Dean of Student Affairs and Chief Operating Officer at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine NY helped spawn a new era in fatherhood when he threatened to sue the city if he didn’t get time off for the birth of his second child.

Dr. Cammarata’s academic qualifications include his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and graduate degrees from Hofstra University and California Coast University. Jerry also has been awarded the Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Mercy College, Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Dowling College and the Presidential Medal of Honor from St. John’s University. Phi Delta Kappa of Columbia University has named him Educator of the Year. He’s got more letters after his name than the Swiss Alphabet!
?Besides his career work in health, safety and education, he is a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist, as well as a licensed and Board-Certified Audiologist and Certified Safety Executive.
Dr. Jerry Cammarata was President Carter’s Appointee to the White House Conference on Families and President Reagan’s Appointee to the Selective Service System and was the Chairman of the Civilian Review Board of New York City.
