The German news agency dpa reported that 5 metric tons of the hazelnut spread Nutella were stolen from a semi-trailer. Bread trucks in the area have been assigned armed guards.
This occurred at the same location that the theft of a load of energy drinks disappeared in August and five tons of coffee worth 30,000 euros taken in March. Local police speculate that a gang of crooks are at an all-time low and need a boost.
They are on the lookout for thieves with glazed eyes and a possible ‘brownish smearing’ across the mouth and chin and speculated that the rush from the combination of the energy drinks, coffee and Nutella could have powered a rocket to Mars.
The stolen Nutella is worth about $20,000 which is16 thousand Euros or about 7 billion Lira; but to a Nutella addict ‘The score of a lifetime.’
Authorities said the incident happened in the spa town of Bad Hersfeld which begs the question ‘why does a spa need so much Nutella?’ Could the properties of the hazelnut product be better for the skin than a mud bath and satisfy a sugar urge at the same time?
A clue for detectives following the case is that the slogan ‘Lick your way to health’ has been appearing in the advertising at various spas in the region.
In America, several students at Columbia University had stolen $5,000 worth of the snack. A cafeteria spokesman stated that students had been consuming around 100 pounds of Nutella on a daily basis. Reports of numerous incidents of students climbing the walls of their classrooms after lunch were cited by various professors at the University. When the cafeteria’s supply ran out some got panicky and began snorting organic sugar packets and lemonade powder.
